ica open forums

In a move to proactively engage our global members and demonstrate our deepening international credentials, we have embarked on a campaign to host a range of open forum sessions at key locations across the world. The forums are designed to create an opportunity for the ICA Board of Directors to listen to members’ views on the important issues affecting the cotton industry and the ICA.

where have we been and what have we done?

In 2009 we hosted sessions in Switzerland, China, Tanzania, Brazil and the UK. In 2010 we have already visited India and Bangladesh. More than 240 international delegates have participated.  The sessions have been well received - creating a good opportunity to learn from each other, listen to views, share best practice and drive forward new initiatives, such as:

  • Providing more background information on arbitrators to enable firms to make an informed choice
  • Setting up a facility to share best practice and provide general legal advice to members on the enforcement of awards
  • Appointing an auditor if there is a conflict over local tax laws
  • Giving firms the option to use a sole arbitrator, nominated by the ICA, if they are proceeding ex-parte
  • Revisiting the arbitration application fee for non members on an annual basis
  • Creating a Chinese section on the ICA website
  • Developing communication links to share information
  • Establishing a network of key contacts for arbitration matters and procedures

when and where will the next forum take place?

In March 2010 we will be hosting an open forum in Singapore to coincide with the 'Singapore 2010- Protecting your Cotton Business' event. Later in the year we will be returning to Bangladesh and also visiting Pakistan, China, USA and Turkey.

who should attend?

The sessions are open to existing members and anybody who wants to find out more about the ICA and how it can support and benefit the cotton community. Simply contact us for further information and to register your interest.
