Hundreds join ICA Remembrance Service

Hundreds of people joined the International Cotton Association (ICA) at 11am on 11 November at the site of the ‘Unknown Soldier’ statue on Liverpool’s historic Exchange Flags to take part in a special remembrance service to pay homage to all of the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in battle.
Joined by local dignitaries and members of the King’s Regiment, the service began with the ‘Last Post’ bugle call and ended with the firing of a poppy cannon, which filled the sky above Exchange Flags with heart shaped confetti.
Traditionally we gather on Exchange Flags at the foot of our statue to pay our respects to the 423 men from the Association who lost their lives during both World Wars. However, in recent years our remembrance service has become an event where anyone can come to remember all those who have died in defence of liberty and justice during any conflict. The service is now a stalwart of Liverpool’s remembrance calendar and it is truly humbling to welcome so many people to pay their respects with us each year.
The ICA works closely with local organisations to make sure our service is a fitting tribute to all those that have bravely fought and continue to fight for their country. They include The Lieutenancy of Merseyside, Liverpool BID, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Exchange Flags and the Liverpool Pals Memorial Fund.
