Arbitrator Training: Basic Level 1


The ICA Basic Level 1 Arbitrator Training will provide you with an introduction to the basic principles of the ICA technical arbitration process.


who is the training for?

The course is open to ICA members and non-members who want to become an ICA Arbitrator or who want to learn more about the basic principles of the ICA technical arbitration process.


what are the benefits?

On successful completion of the course/exam and after being elected as an ICA Individual Member with at least five years' experience in the cotton trade, you will have the opportunity to:

  • understand more fully the ICA Bylaws & Rules and the arbitral procedures

  • be included on the ICA list of official arbitrators and accept arbitral appointments

  • be able to offer your services as an ICA arbitrator

  • be eligible to sit on technical appeal committees

what is the cost?

The course material (available in English and Portuguese) is FREE and is available as a download from our website. To sit the exam, there is a cost equivalent to GBP £100 (+ VAT).


where can you sit the exam?

You can sit the exam at a range of locations to coincide with the ICA visit schedule. Or, if you prefer, we will try to arrange a location of your choice. Please contact us to discuss.

To sit the exam you will first need to review the course material, which is available in English and Portuguese as a FREE download from our website. You will then need to contact us to schedule your exam.

how can you become an ICA Arbitrator?

  • You must successfully complete the Basic Level 1 course/exam

  • You must be elected as an ICA Individual Member

  • You must have at least five years' experience in the cotton trade (exceptions will be made depending on your level of experience and competency)

  • And, from 1 April 2013, you must successfully complete Modules 1, 2 & 3 of the Advanced Level
